Photos From First Harvest - Rooted In Ohana
Our best First Harvest event ever?
It’s tough to say. But it was most definitely our largest yet! For the more than 40 people who attended our 2022 First Harvest - “Rooted In Ohana” event, it was a truly joyous and memorable experience, to say the least.
Every year we welcome friends, family, employees and visitors for a morning of coffee cherry picking on our family farm above Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. We do this as a tribute to the Kona Coffee harvest season, which begins every year in September here in Kona. It is truly a time worth celebrating, as the entire Kona growing region glows RED with the color of ripe coffee cherries.
This year graced us with partially sunny skies and a much welcomed cool mountain breeze. Our farm is one of the highest elevation coffee farms in the Hawaiian Islands and our farm manager Arturo, along with our owner Malia Bolton Hind, explained to the group how elevation contributes to the density, flavor, and quality of the coffee cup.
This year we hosted perhaps the most competitive crew yet, with some of the teams completely disappearing into the fields during picking time. All in all, there were 15 teams who picked a total of 76 pounds of coffee cherry! Wow!
Enjoy these beautiful photos shot by our photographer, Ali Rowe.
As always, we are processing the cherry harvested by our community to be submitted for competition in the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival in November. Last year we took home First Place!
We would like to thank everyone who made it out to this year’s event. Along with getting to share the fruits of our labor, this was a great reminder of all the hands and hearts that go into making a cup of 100% Kona coffee. We are so blessed to do what we do.
You’re invited to join our First Harvest next year!
This event always takes place in late summer. Subscribe to our email list to stay informed about upcoming events at the farm and café.
